Boost Rentals: Let us introduce ourselves

It’s not gonna rent itself... We know that because we are short term rental property owners. Lucky for you, we provide the exact same service to our owners as we built and use for our own homes.

Hi, I’m Chris, the owner of Boost Rentals

I’m putting myself front and center because I’ll always be a part of your experience with Boost Rentals. I asked my friends and family what 3 words they would use to describe me as a business owner. Yes, I did actually did this, and no, they didn’t just stick to three words.

These are the things I heard the most…

Honest to a fault (sometimes). Knowledgeable. Hyper competitive. They would trust me in a heartbeat (thanks, mom). Data-driven. Focused. Intense.

Sorry I’m not sorry about that last one. I have strong convictions on how a great business should be run and I don’t compromise with Boost.

5 years ago I bought my first short term rental in Nashville. I did this while living in Brazil. I challenged myself to built a strong enough team and operational system that it would be highly profitable while I was on the beach, sipping caipirinhas running it from my iPhone. That property has weathered COVID-19, tough winters, unbelievably busy summers and everything in between. It does that because I built it to last, every detail is maintained, and we always put our guests first. You can check it out here.

After needing a break, and hiring Vacasa to manage it, I saw how badly they tanked the profitability of my home. Revenue dropped 40% and they had the audacity to charge me 20% of the remaining revenue. The day I fired them was the day I realized that I needed to scale the property management methodology I had created and offer it to other owners.

I’ve spent the last 2 years slowly growing this company as a side business, while working as an internal operations consultant at Meta. Frankly, it’s been easy because the value proposition is simple. We offer consistent, high quality services, drive more revenue, and do it at more competitive price. We expand mainly through word of mouth and love what we do.

Here’s how we are different

We do lots of things differently, but I’ll reiterate first that I’m an owner myself. Every system I have built to manage you property is what I use on my own. I know when they’re working, when they’re not, and when I need to make a change because I see the impacts in my own bank account.

When you work with “the other guys” you’re usually working with an individual that has never owned their own property to know what success looks like, and they don’t have the power to change the systems that have but put in place by their parent company.

Here are a few of our key differentiators. I’ll go in to more detail in subsequent blog posts.

  1. We DRIVE revenue. Everyone says this. Especially “the big guys”. They always talk about “dynamic pricing”. That’s super important but it’s only half the equation. Revenue is a balance of pricing and occupancy. To drive the most revenue possible you must price correctly, but also have the speed to clean and maintain your units in a high quality manner when you only have 3-4 days unoccupied on your calendar each month. This is our bread and butter.

  2. We REACT. Providing services like housekeeping and maintenance for a unit seems simple. Strong quality processes are in place, but mistakes happen. When issues occur, our cleaning and maintenance teams are usually there to fix it within the hour. THAT’S FAST! Better yet, our customer service teams jump in to go the extra mile to ensure a high rating.

  3. We AUTOMATE. All essential services are provided in an automated way. Responses to commonly asked questions. Reactions to emergency situations. Maintenance issues during stays. And more… We do this as operators so we spend less time doing manual work and more time focused on crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s for your guest. It works, and we love a good system.

Thanks for reading through my “TED Talk”. There will be more to come and I’m excited to work with you!
